The greatest gift you can give yourself is a life well lived.
The greatest gift you can give your loved ones is a death well planned for.

I love these words from David Whyte. They align so much with my work, and what I encourage all of my clients to do - in all chapters of their lives. Find your courage and bravery.
No matter where we are in life - chasing dreams, changing ourselves or relationships, exploring our mortality, or facing the end of life, the most important things to ensure we are traveling our own journey are right here.
"... start with the first thing close in ...
... the step you don't want to take ...
... your own way to begin ...
... your own question ...
... follow your own voice ...
... take a small step you can call your own ...
... start with the first thing close in ...
... the step you don't want to take"
To achieve all that we desire in life and death we must first start close in, finding the courage and bravery to hear our own heart's desires. Courage in our self-reflection, our own choices, our own life. If you are considering making a change in your life today? Relationship, career, or something else? Start close in. Do you want to have the hard conversations? Start close in.
Exploring your mortality and discovering what and who matters most? Start close in. Creating End of Life Plans for your one-day inevitable death? Start close in.
Take one step - that is the first step; your own way, ask your own questions, follow your own voice. Take the steps you can call your own. Make this journey YOUR journey, by YOUR design, in all chapters.
So for today ... I share these words from David Whyte. May they speak to you as they do me.
"Start close in,
don't take the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don't want to take.
Start with
the ground you know,
the pale ground
beneath your feet,
your own
way to begin
the conversation.
Start with your own question,
give up on other
people's questions,
don't let them
smother something
simple.
To hear
another's voice,
follow
your own voice,
wait until
that voice
becomes an
intimate private ear
that can
really listen
to another.
Start right now
take a small step
you can call your own
don't follow
someone else's
heroics, be humble
and focused,
start close in,
don't mistake
that other
for your own.
Start close in,
don't take
the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don't want to take."
--- David Whyte
